Audiovisual press At a pinch, a reporter or media representative can arrive in Brussels empty-handed and yet still get his or her work done. That is the challenge which ENG-Videohouse, one of the concessionaires, had to meet. Receptionists and advisers can start by offering them all kinds of assistance, technical and otherwise. The rooms for press conferences, the patio and various other rooms suitable for 'stand up meetings' are fitted out with superb audio and video equipment. It is possible to report from the rooftop, with the Brussels skyline as a backdrop. ENG-Videohouse can also, in some cases, provide a camera team to climb up on to the roof with the reporter. In fact, virtually anything involving TV facilities can be contracted out to ENG-Videohouse.
Furthermore, there are four radio studios in the Résidence Palace from which live broadcasts can be transmitted. There is a TV studio with two cameras, a blue key studio and a voice booth.
Résidence Palace also offers editing facilities. Linear editing can be done using SX Fieldcutters hooked up to a player that can handle both Betacam SX and SP formats, or in an A/B Suite with 3 SX video recorders. We also offer Avid non-linear editing facilities. With Avid, the images are first digitized and then edited using powerful computers to 'cut and paste' them in the desired sequence. NLE makes it possible to produce different versions using the same source images. Effects can also be added.
The press centre has a fixed link to the VRT (Flemish Public Radio and Television). The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) ensures that images can be transmitted to the Eurovision network via the VRT towers. TV stations not affiliated to the EBU can use drive-ins for satellite news gathering vehicles. Videohouse also offers these stations the possibility of transmitting images over another channel (feeding and uplinking).
