Presscentre With some 800 foreign journalists working in Brussels at any given time, and this number set to grow in the future, there was a real need for a fully equipped press centre where news of European significance could be passed on to the media and which could also serve as a meeting place. So, on 20 July 2000 the Belgian federal government decided to set up an international press centre in Building C of the Résidence Palace.
There, members of the Belgian and foreign press can find information on the activities of the federal government and on the Communities and regions of Belgium. Governmental and non-governmental institutions, organizations and companies can also use the centre to present their projects.
But the Résidence Palace is not just a building full of rooms. An international press centre is only worthy of the name if both the government and the press play an equal role. Press organisations can use the facilities to launch all kinds of debates, seminars and conferences. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the International Press Association (IPA) and the General Association of Professional Journalists of Belgium (AGJPB/AVBB) are even developing a real service centre there, Journalists @Your Service.
Making and gathering news is always more pleasant in agreeable and suitable surroundings. Hence the magnificent historical setting combined with high-tech equipment. We hope that journalists and organisers enjoy it to the full and that after work they still have time to stop by for a drink or a bite to eat.
